The Founder

Alfredo Mauro Freda

Founder of AF Studio, Alfredo Mauro Freda brought to post-war architecture a rare combination of technical rigour, design sensibility and cultural depth. Graduating from the University of Naples in 1957 and pursuing postgraduate studies in Stockholm between 1957 and 1960 — specialising in construction efficiency — he developed a multidisciplinary approach that would define AF Studio's identity for decades: one where precision, functionality and refined aesthetics were never in opposition, but always in dialogue.

Licensed as an architect in New York in 1966, Freda built a practice that was international from its earliest years.

A Practice Built Across Borders

Working across multiple countries and international contexts, AF Studio built a reputation for translating elegance, balance and architectural character into every project. Over time, this led to the development of a strong professional network, particularly across the Middle East and North Africa, where the studio's architectural language was especially appreciated.

Beyond Architecture

A practice that shaped more than buildings

AF Studio's influence extended beyond construction. Through interior design and furniture creation, Alfredo Freda developed a distinctive aesthetic that captured a precise architectural and cultural moment. AF-designed furniture continues to circulate in the international secondary market today — sought after by collectors for its timeless identity and stylistic coherence.

Over decades of work across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, AF Studio built both a body of work and a professional network that would prove foundational to everything that followed.

AF Studio's work was never confined to a single typology. From civic and residential architecture to large-scale tourism and hospitality developments, the practice demonstrated a consistent ability to adapt its design language to diverse programmes, geographies and cultures — always maintaining the same standard of quality and rigour.

The Transition

From AF Studio to FDJ Development Solutions

In 2025, driven by a new generation of development opportunities, the decision was made to evolve the legacy of AF Studio and establish FDJ Development Solutions — a company that inherits six decades of experience in architecture, design, construction and development, while reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.

FDJ combines architecture, development and strategic thinking, integrating design, construction and large-scale project development with a stronger focus on sustainability, environmental and social impact, governance and financial feasibility.

The approach is not only about creating exceptional spaces, but also about ensuring their long-term viability and successful execution. The name changes. The commitment — to quality, to craft, to the client — does not.

A New Chapter

Carrying a legacy forward

In 2025, a second generation chose not to archive this legacy — but to extend it.

FDJ Development Solutions was established to carry forward six decades of expertise in architecture, design and construction, while expanding into the disciplines that define complex development today: strategic planning, financial feasibility, investment positioning and ESG integration.

The name changes. The commitment does not.
